First Place
Adrift
by Gillian O’Shaughnessy
The judges really admired the poignant beauty in this piece, with its cosmic desolation juxtaposed with the memories of home. There is a haunting sense of inevitability while also being deeply moving.
Second Place
Dog Eat Dog
by Linda Grierson-Irish
It was hard to ignore the great sense of building tension in this piece, rich with dystopian intrigue, and a personal connection to the past. The twist takes the story from compassion to betrayal leaving the reader with a lingering sense of unease.
